Karen Read Trial Day 22

Karen Read Trial - Day 22

Commonwealth's Case Continues in Murder Trial

Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of striking her Boston police officer boyfriend with her sport utility vehicle and leaving him to die in a blizzard, is facing a murder trial. The Commonwealth's case continues today, with prosecutors presenting evidence and witnesses to support their charges.

Motion to Exclude Argument

The day's proceedings began with a motion by Read's defense attorney to exclude certain evidence from the trial. The defense argued that the evidence was prejudicial and would unfairly sway the jury against their client. The judge denied the motion, ruling that the evidence was relevant and admissible.

Bukhenik Back on the Stand

Following the motion, the prosecution called Sergeant Daniel Bukhenik of the Massachusetts State Police back to the stand for cross-examination. Bukhenik had previously testified about his involvement in the investigation of Read's boyfriend's death. During cross-examination, the defense questioned Bukhenik about his handling of the investigation and the conclusions he reached.

Bukhenik Redirect

After the defense's cross-examination, the prosecution redirect examined Bukhenik to clarify his testimony. The prosecution elicited from Bukhenik that his investigation was thorough and impartial, and that his conclusions were supported by the evidence.

The trial is expected to continue for several more weeks. The jury will ultimately decide whether Read is guilty of murder or any lesser charges.
